The Vietnam Veterans of America, NW Montana Chapter 1087 is a non-profit Service Organization dedicated to supporting NW Montana's Vietnam Veterans and their Families.
What a group of Veterans! Another long weekend- about 15 Chapter members at any given time volunteered to do the parking for the very popular Spartan Races in order to raise funds to bring the Healing Memorial Wall to Kalispell in September. They did a wonderful job! Rain, Shine and wind, they got it all- Thanks to all of you that spent your weekend doing this!!!
This morning the Chapter presented the Flathead Valley Community College Veterans Group with a Check of funds raised from our "PTSD, Suicide, Sexual Trauma and Education Awareness Walk" . A great bond is being forged.
Thank you once again to Walmart for your generous Donation for our Montana Veterans Home Christmas and bringing the Healing Memorial Wall to our local Veterans. Several Chapter members were on hand when we were presented the check on Saturday.

Homesteader Days was a success for the Fund Raising Trailer over the weekend. Thanks to all the volunteers that put in their time and thanks for the hospitality from all who attended and helped us support our Vets here in Northwest MT.
At a recent Flathead Valley Community College (FVCC) board of directors meeting, Retired U S Air Force Brig Gen Tip Clark, Life Member VVA Northwest Montana, Chapter 1087 presents a check from the chapter to Ms Jane Karas, President FVCC in the amount of $1,000.00 to be used for the benefit of veterans attending the college.
Several Chapter members had the opportunity to meet with Senator Tester this afternoon to discuss issues facing all our Veterans here in Montana. "Never again will one generation of Veterans abandon another."
And the winner of the raffle for the Over and Under 12 Gauge Shotgun is Ted Smith of Kalispell. Chapter President John Burgess and Vise President Terry Baker Presented Ted with the Shotgun today. Congratulations Ted. The proceeds of the Raffle is to take Vietnam Veterans that can't financially make the trip to the "Healing Wall" in Washington DC and need the opportunity to finally get some closure for friends and Brothers lost.
Today in a small gathering at the Flathead Valley Community College Chapter President John Burgess Presented a scholarship check for Veterans in memory of Christoper Atkinson, a casualty of the Iraq War.

Today the Chapter hosted the First "Thank a Vet Day" BBQ
at Depot Park.They served a Free lunch to every individual that ever put on a uniform. Any branch, any time, and their Family. In attendance for the young Veterans were many Veteran Service Organizations that the Vietnam Veterans Did not have access to or did not know about. VFW, American Legion, Flathead Marines,Combat Vet Center, FVCC Continuing Education, DAV, VA Service Officers, Job Service, and of course the VVA.
Thanks go out to all the Chapter Members that spent a chilly Saturday afternoon Hosting a BBQ for our Heroes residing at the Montana Veterans Home. Special thanks to Pixi and her friends, that several times have spent hours behind the scenes baking desserts etc.We enjoyed Visiting and serving our Fellow Veterans and their caregivers.
Thank you to all Veterans on this INDEPENDENCE DAY for standing up for and protecting our independence. Chapter Members had a great reception in the Kalispell 4th of July Parade. Many parade goers not only stood as they went by, but also Saluted them. Thank you montanamotorpool.com for the loan of the Deuce.
Our local Privately ran "Veterans Food Pantry" hosted another Stand down. They always host a wonderful event which is a blessing to many Veterans. Several of our Chapter members were on hand to help any way they could. Thanks Gopher for the Photo's.
It was a very windy, cold day in Kalispell as we hosted the first VIETNAM VETERANS DAY gathering.Thank you to all the Veterans and families that weathered the cold and helped us pay tribute to our Vietnam Veterans and remembered 15 of our local Heros that gave their lives in Vietnam.
Chapter members jovially showed up to support our local Cenex Harvest Veterans food drive for the local Veterans food pantry. It was not only a great success, but the Veterans had a great time promoting this worthy cause. We have some of the most caring members around- Thank you to all of you.
Today the Chapter was invited to share the Residents Christmas Party at th Montana Veterans home. Our members and the residents enjoy the comradery. It was an honor being secret Santa for these heroes. There is currently 33 Vietnam Veterans residing there.
Veterans were a huge hit at the 4th of July Parade. It was the first
welcome home reception several of the Veterans had received.
The crowd rose to their feet and cheered as these local heroes passed by.
6 of our local Vietnam Veterans,3 of which were joined by their spouses, traveled to Washington DC with "Run for the Wall" on an amazing Healing journey from California 3 fully funded by the generous donations of the People of Flathead Valley. The Homestead Cafe gave us all a free send off breakfast as we began our journey
One of our first order of business was to create a fund to get 6 of our local Vietnam Veterans on a healing journey to the Veterans Memorial in DC. Raffle tickets were sold for a 3 day 3 night Safari in south Africa. The HuntSA Safari was donated by local Business man Frank Brisindine.
Montana's first FACES OF AGENT ORANGE Town Hall meeting was Hosted by Chapter 1087 at the Elks Lodge. Its purpose was to bring awareness of the birth defects and devastation well into the 3rd generation of the Vietnam veterans children and Grandchildren after the Veterans exposure to the Herbicide during their service.
